How often should I have an eye examination?
Prior to the age of 40 every 2 years, after 40 years every year. In case of complaints, certain diseases and after surgeries more frequent examinations would be advisable.

How long does it take to get a prescription for glasses?
The eye examination takes about 15 minutes and you immediately receive your prescription right after the examination.
Can I drive after the examination?
For determination of glasses, examination of the anterior part of your eye, measurement of the intraocular pressure or the examination of the central posterior part of your eye no pupil-dilating eye drops are necessary and you can drive.
For which tests is a dilation necessary and why?
For vision problems like glare, blurred vision or if you see haze, flashes of light, floaters, or anything similar. Then, a careful examination of the posterior part of the eye is required and for that pupil-dilating eye drops are necessary.
I would like to get contact lenses, but I don’t know if I can tolerate them – what would you recommend?
I would recommend to try samples of contacts (1-day contact lenses). So you can easily find out if you tolerate them.
Are soft or hard contact lenses better?
Generally hard contacts are recommended. They can even be used for astigmatism (uneven corneal curvature). In recent years, soft contacts have been significantly improved with regard to materials and fit. With proper care and good compatibility, there shouldn’t be any problems with soft contact lenses.
Can I wear contact lenses as well as glasses from time to time?
Yes, this is even strongly recommended. The total time of wearing hard and soft contact lenses, should not exceed 6 to 8 hours per day. Therefore, you should also wear glasses.
Can I wear soft contact lenses even with dry eyes?
Yes, you can. Quality materials, a good fit of the contact lens and high-quality care products are important for this. I would be happy to provide advice to you.
My eyes burn and are very swollen in the morning, what could that mean?
It could be a dry eye. Moisturizing eye drops can relieve such symptoms. An examination would be important as well as a brief clarification of possible other causes (such as allergy, thyroid, etc.)
I’m allergic, can that also affect the eyes?
Yes, anti-allergic eye drops can relieve your symptoms.
